Yes it’s possible, even here in Beijing to find peace, the Lama temple is one of these places, although still full of people, the atmosphere is gentle and peaceful and the people are focussed on their prayers making it a lovely place to visit for a couple of hours to restore body and soul after the madness of the city.
Coal Hill is directly behind the Forbidden City and from the spring pagoda at the top gives great views over Beijing old and new. The hill is located in the beautiful Jingshan park which is a popular place for the residents of Beijing to relax. It was created by the emperor Yongle to conform with the Feng Shui belief that a city should be built to the south of a hill. It is noted as the site of the suicide of the last emperor of the Ming Dynasty
