We spent the first half of the month in Moscow waiting for our Chinese visas to come back from London. There was lots of walking around this gorgeous city. We went to the zoo, visited Gorky park, chilled out on a river cruise and watched Swan Lake for my birthday. We finally left Moscow on 12th July after a nightmare of trying to buy train tickets and boarded the overnight train to Kazan – city of Tartars. I spent my 30th birthday in this beautiful white Kremlined river side city then we were off again next day on the Trans Siberian Railway on the most incredible journey I’ve ever taken. Almost immediately we were in the Russian countryside, vast open spaces of wildflower meadows, silver birches, giant mountains and mighty rivers. Our journey took us to Yekaterinberg, Novosibirsk – the true start of Siberia, all fur and hunting shops, Irkutsk and Lake Baikal, an epic 56 hour journey to Krasnyarsk, then onto the very end of the world – Vladivostok a crumbling beauty of a city.
